Shocking moment TV presenter Jeremy Vine is hit by a van and knocked off his bike | The Sun

THIS is the shocking moment TV presenter Jeremy Vine is hit by a van and knocked off his bike.

The popular BBC and Channel 5 presenter, 58, posted the clip to X, formerly known as Twitter, earlier today, claiming the van driver had made an illegal turn.

Vine, writing on the social media site, said: “This morning. About an hour ago. Illegal right turn, then watch. Unbelievable.”

Footage shows the keen cyclist pedalling past the Tavistock Hotel in Bloomsbury, central London, at around 11am.

The short video clip shows Vine cycling down the road as a white van, on the other side of the road, attempts to make a right turn.

As the vehicle turns right into the apparent junction, Vine is forced to stop and repeatedly honk his bike horn.

He then gets behind the van, which starts reversing into him and the TV personality is forced to use his hands to slam the back of the truck in order to make it stop.

His bike can then be seen lying in the road.

Vine then appears in front of the camera and seems to be unhurt.

The clip has sparked a lively online debate over who was at fault.

One commentator suggested that Vine had gone through a red line but as the presenter showed, this wasn’t the case.

Many people sided with Vine, with one person writing: “Scary as hell. Glad you're okay.

"Can't believe the van took an illegal turn and then tried to correct it by reversing the wrong way! Points are not enough, immediate license revoke.”

While another said: “Christ. You’re lucky to be alive. Sorry to see this happened. Just awful.”

A third person added: “Crikey this is some basic error. This man should have his licence taken away. Did you manage to get your bike back in one piece? Maybe scraped?”

However, not every was so supportive.

One person said: “It's not clear what's going on there he appears to be driving on the wrong side of the road, and thus making a wrong turn.

“For your own safety though Jeremy you should've given him a wide berth, and handed over your evidence to someone appropriate.”

Another, who was critical of Vine’s actions, posted: “You had plenty of opportunity to just stop and wait for him to go but decided it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

“You represent everything that's wrong with many cyclists, just pure aggressive behaviours towards other road users and pedestrians, too.”

A third chipped in with: “The driver was undoubtedly in the wrong here but I am going to say a but… why would you put yourself in such a dangerous position?

“Why pass directly behind the vehicle like that when you know it’s driver has made an illegal turn and obviously has to reverse?”

In July this year, footage captured the moment a cyclist smashes into a car sending the biker flying.
