There’s nothing worse than wet washing in the autumn. As temperatures cool and storms continue to ravage the UK, finding ways to dry washing indoors can be tricky.

Many people use their tumble dryers, heated clothes airers or clothes horses to dry their washing indoors.

One way to speed up drying clothes in the tumble dryer is to use dryer balls. Dryer balls prevent laundry from clumping and can reduce drying time.

Dryer balls come in a plethora of sizes and materials but are most commonly made from wool.

I tested out a new dryer ball – the Boss It Rapid Dryer Ball – and it was surprisingly effective.

The Boss It Rapid Dryer Ball’s patented ultra-reflective tech redistributes heat around the drum by bouncing heat back into your laundry which should reduce the time and energy required to dry it.

I decided to test out the Boss It Rapid Dryer Ball on my bath towels and bath mats – arguably two of the most difficult items to dry in winter.

I tested out the ball on a full load of towels and a slightly smaller load with two light bath mats.

I have a washer-dryer that does not have sensors like more modern tumble dryers. To put the ball through its paces, I decided to stop the dryer’s cycle early to see if I could reduce the drying time.

To use the nifty gadget, I simply popped the ball into the dryer with my washing and chose a reduced drying setting. It’s important to make sure the ball is not used in the washing cycle if you have a washer dryer.

The Boss It Rapid Dryer Ball shaved a whopping 20 minutes off the drying time of my bath towels.

Since tumble dryers are not the cheapest appliance to use, this could save me a lot of money in the long-run.

When drying my bath mats, I managed to finish the cycle 30 minutes early which really surprised me.

The noise level of the Rapid Dryer Ball will depend on the size of the load. When drying my towels, it sounded similar to using wool dryer balls.

When drying the bath mats, it was slightly louder because there was less material to muffle the sound of the ball hitting the drum. However, I didn’t find the sound particularly noticeable.
