One of Hollywood heavy-hitter law firms has become more muscular.

Freedman + Taitelman, LLP is rebranding to Freedman Taitelman + Cooley, LLP. Miles Cooley’s elevation to the masthead recognizes the contributions he has made since joining the practice as partner in February 2022.

He has represented such high-profile clients as Rihanna, Jay-Z, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the Los Angeles Chargers and Clippers as well as other entertainers, media entities, business concerns and high-net-worth individuals and family offices.

“This year marks the 26th anniversary of the firm and the perfect time to form a new team adding Miles as a name partner,” F+T founders Bryan Freedman and Michael Taitelman said in a joint statement. “Not only does he possess the highest level of legal muscle, rigor and integrity, he brings a necessary well of empathy and compassion to our culture. With his leadership, we look forward to continuing the firm’s successful track record and broadening our portfolio to include pro bono and contingency cases.”

No stranger to high-profile cases and clients, Freedman has represented the likes of Tucker Carlson, Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo in employment disputes, as well as Gabrielle Union in her discrimination battle with NBC over a stint on America’s Got Talent a few years ago. Freedman, who been retained by Deadline’s parent company PMC on occasion, currently is locking horns with NBCUniversal over allegedly sordid treatment of reality TV stars — though that matter has yet to turn into a full-on lawsuit.

Before joining F+T, Cooley was Chief Legal Officer and COO of the CMNTY Culture music, publishing, film and real estate portfolio companies and, prior to that, senior partner with DLA Piper LLP. He serves on the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights National Board of Directors; as a member of the Advisory Board of John Burton Advocates for Youth; and as pro bono counsel to Peace4Kids, a foster care organization in South Central Los Angeles.

“I’m humbled and honored to add my name to the outstanding firm Mike and Bryan have built,” Cooley said. “Its excellent lawyers and staff, enviable roster of clients and long track record of delivering winning results make this firm one of the most coveted places to practice. It is the opportunity of a career to partner with Mike and Bryan.”

Freedman Taitelman + Cooley LLP’s entertainment and business clients also include Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, the Estate of Michael Jackson, FKA twigs, Megyn Kelly, Brooks Koepke/LIV Golf Bethenny Frankel and others.

Dominic Patten contributed to this report.

Must Read Stories
