The claim was initially sparked by finance analysts at JP Morgan, who said people could pocket a cool $1,200 (\u00a3960) a month by listening to their song on repeat for 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n
It was thought that if someone uploaded their own 30-second track to\u00a0Spotify, and then programmed their phone to listen to it on repeat, they would receive that sum in royalties.<\/p>\n
However, Daniel Ek, the CEO\u00a0 of Spotify quickly debunked this claim tweeting it\u2019s not true.<\/p>\n
The theory was first reported in the Financial Times and then\u00a0tweeted about by Julian Klymochko, founder of Accelerate, a Canadian-based investment company.<\/p>\n
But Mr Ek replied stating: \u201cIf that were true, my own playlist would just be \u2018Daniel\u2019s 30-second Jam\u2019 on repeat!<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n \u201cThe royalty payments that artists receive might vary according to differences in how their music is streamed or the agreements they have with labels or distributors.<\/p>\n “In many cases, royalty payments happen once a month, but exactly when and how much artists get paid depends on their agreements with their record label or distributor.”\u00a0<\/p>\n In its article, the FT reported JP Morgan executives estimated as much as 10 percent of all music streams are fake – deriving from streaming farms, where large numbers of devices run apps like Spotify on repeat.<\/p>\n Spotify told the FT earlier this year: “Artificial streaming is a longstanding, industry-wide issue that Spotify is working to stamp out across our service.\u201d<\/p>\n Universal Music Group and Deezer recently announced they will jointly launch a music streaming model aimed at generating bigger royalties for artists – meaning they will be paid more if users actively choose to listen to their music.<\/p>\n This could mean Spotify, and other streaming services such as Apple Music, will be forced to adjust their own models.<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/dynamic\/23\/590x\/secondary\/spotify-4955421.jpg?r=1694517495738\")
