TikTok user shares her laundry hack using ‘Snow Fairy’
Fabric conditioner is sold to us as a liquid that will soften and add a fresh fragrance to our laundry. However, according to the experts at Dri-Pak, you really don’t need to use fabric softener. Express.co.uk reveals why you should use white vinegar instead of fabric softener in your washing machine.
Fabric softener is supposed to make the things you wash look, feel and smell fantastic, but this comes at a cost.
The experts at Dri-Pak have revealed that fabric conditioner is an additional cost that you don’t need to spend.
Instead of purchasing fabric softener, just use white vinegar in your washing machine because it will do the same job.

Fabric conditioner is designed to eliminate static electricity, make clothes softer to the touch and leave a fragrance.
Dri-Pak’s experts explained: “They work by leaving small amounts of chemicals on the surface of the garments.”
The cleaning experts said the sales of fabric softener are on the decline, partly because people are concerned about the number of chemicals being used in the home and the possible effects on the body.
Fabric softener can be bad for your body, your washing machine, and your clothes.
The fragrance in fabric softener might make your clothes smell lovely, but it is one of the biggest causes of skin irritation.
Fabric conditioner can trigger a condition called contact dermatitis, which shows up as a red, itchy rash on the body – especially around the armpits and groin.

Fabric softener will also damage your washing machine, by collecting inside the warm, wet environment and providing a “breeding ground for bacteria”.
Bacteria will make your machine and clothes smell really bad and is a massive health hazard.
Even if the conditioner doesn’t block the machine and cause bacteria to grow, it clogs the fibres of towelling products, making them stiffer rather than softer over time.
White vinegar and soda crystals are cheap and safe alternatives to fabric conditioner.
Clothes and towels often feel stiff because your machine is full of hard water deposits and limescale, but this can be solved by adding soda crystals to the main wash.
Replace your fabric softener with a splash of white vinegar.
Vinegar isn’t just good for softening your clothes, it benefits the machine and extends the life of your clothes.
Dri-Pak’s experts explained: “White vinegar removes static electricity but also helps remove any residual minerals and helps keep the washing machine clean too.”
“It can also help keep your colours vibrant by helping prevent pigment dyes bleeding.
“You can also save money and avoid the use of plastic altogether by dissolving some Citric Acid to make a handy white vinegar substitute.
“You can add a couple of drops of essential oil if you do want a fragrance.”
