US fans can get their hands on a PS5

WHile getting your hands on a PlayStation 5 is becoming more and more rarer, it also seems like it has also sold out everywhere – from Amazon to Target to Best Buy.

However, everywhere that is, except for one unassuming location: HSN.

On HSN you can get a PlayStation 5, a controller a headset and so much more for less than $1,000 with HSN’s PlayStation 5 Accessories Bundle.

The bundle—which costs $999.99 from its original price of $1054.99—includes a PlayStation 5 console, a Sony DualSense Controller, a wired headset, a dual dock charging stand for up to two controllers, as well as two software vouchers for various games services.

Explained: When was the last Currys PS5 restock?

For those who wanted to get their hands on a PlayStaiton5 in the UK, Currys used a PS5 VIP priority pass lottery to dish out its consoles in a fair way.

Those selected would have five days to buy the console using a unique code, with redeemers receiving a call a few weeks later.

However, this system became less and less fair as the months went on as the lottery ended at the start of June, yet people were still receiving codes up to the beginning of December. So, it became almost impossible to bag a console from Currys if you hadn’t signed up six months prior.

Thankfully, since December, general sale restocks have been happening frequently.

The retailer last had a general sale restock online on 28 January, so we aren’t expecting it to drop again this week.

But keep your eyes peeled on our blog as we bring you all the latest news and when the next restock is.

PS5 system update will add voice commands

Sony’s previous-generation console has had that feature since launching in 2013, but it’s now making its way to the company’s latest console too.

Starting with a beta Sony will make available to English-speaking users in the US and UK first, the company is adding a system option that will make the console respond to “Hey PlayStation.”

It’s a feature you can turn off, but leaving it on will allow you to use your voice to launch games and other apps, as well as open the system menu and control media playback.

Best PS5 games 2021 – what to play now

      Here are our top picks…

Astro’s Playroom – Bundled with the PS5, this could easily be dismissed as a gimmick to show off the DualSense joypad. But it’s a brilliant and wondrously sensory game in its own right – not to be missed.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales – This add-on to the Spider-Man video game reboot is truly gorgeous and shows off the graphical heft of the PS5. It’s also good fun, and you’ll likely lose hours just swinging around snowy Manhattan.

God of War – Revamped for the PS5, this iconic PS4 titan is more stunning than ever. It’s one of the best games of the decade, undoubtedly. A must-play, even if you’ve never touched the franchise before.

Fall Guys – It’s cheap, cheerful and endlessly addictive. Think Takeshi’s Castle meets Fortnite.

Fifa 21 – Let’s be honest: if you care at all about football, you probably already have this. But we had to include it for good measure!

Hitman 3 – Agent 47 is back and he’s looking all swanky with ray-traced graphics and exotic new locations (including Dubai) to explore…and well, murder in.

It Takes Two – This action-adventure platformer is designed for two players (so you’ll need two DualSense joypads, or find a mate online). You play as a married couple planning to divorce, who have been turned into dolls by their daughter Rose – heartwarming and loads of fun.

Call of Duty Warzone – It’s still totally free to play, and newly updated with the Pacific-region Caldera map to explore. Good fun solo or with pals.

SONY is adding a long overdue feature for the PlayStation 5 that makes sharing screenshots a million times easier.

The update lets you access screenshots and clips takes on your PS5 on your mobile via the PlayStation App.

Spotted by @GamingIntPhoto1 on Twitter, the Media Gallery appears to be offering players the option to upload their screenshots and clips.

They can then be viewed on the PS App for a limited period of 14 days.

As well as the two week countdown, clips will are limited to three minutes.

The feature has been in beta in Japan and Canada but has popped up for some North American users.

However, in a subsequent tweet, @GamingIntPhoto1 noted that the feature had been removed.

This has lead to speculation that it’s on the cusp of being officially rolled out in a software update, and the trigger was accidentally pulled too early.

PSVR 2 won't be here any time soon

Those oping to get their hands on a a PS5 console may also be looking to pick up the PSVR 2.

However, at this current time, there isn't much information about second-generation of virtual reality tech for Sony's latest console.

Despite this, there is a small amount of information on the specs being released and teased more frequently now, which is building up the excitement even further.

Unfortunately, we may need to calm ourselves right now, as it appears there still may be some time until PSVR 2 is released. Even though it formed a big part of Sony's CES 2022 showcase, the console manufacturer is still working out what to do with the headset's eye-tracking technology.

Negotiations are apparently underway with Tobii AB, but the fact this isn't locked down yet may be why the PSVR 2 still hasn't been given a release date.

Struggling to get a PS5? Try these alternatives

The Sun’s favourite alternative to a games console is the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset.

Grab a VR headset and you’ll be able to play the legendary Beat Saber – like Guitar Hero, but with lightsabers.

And Dell’s Alienware R10 Ryzen Edition is a gaming PC powerhouse that crushes both the new PS5 and Xbox consoles.

        ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ PS5 release soon

It's good news for fans as they won't have long to wait for a PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 according to a new leak.

The PS5 version of the sci-fi action game has been spotted in the PlayStation network backend along with brand new cover art showing the main character. The store database believes the PS5 version of the game will release in "mid-February – early-March".

The next-gen editions of the games were originally scheduled to release in 2021 but in October the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of both Cyberpunk 2077 and CD Projects other game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were delayed to 2022.

The week ahead: predictions of restock for the UK

        Amazon = medium chance

The last time we saw a PS5 restock at Amazon was back on January 19, so we're definitely overdue one in the UK.

        Currys = low chance

There was a small restock of PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition consoles at Currys last week, however it's unlikely they'll have a restock.

        Game = high chance

We already have our eyes on Game this week as they are expected to restock very soon according to the PS5 bundle page.

he week ahead: predictions of restock for the UK

        John Lewis = low chance

It's been so long since we've seen a PS5 restock at John Lewis, and even if there is one it's always a nightmare to buy one due to small stock allocation, meaning they vanish in a matter of seconds.

        PlayStation Direct = medium chance

The official PlayStation Direct store is gathering registrations for its invite-only drops, meaning that should be a restock imminently.

        Smyths Toys = low chance

The information listed on the store page for the PS5 indicates that more stock is expected in 2022 at the toy retailer. However, it's not been very specific regarding a date.

Easy trick to boost your PS5 storage

IF you need extra PlayStation 5 storage you may want to consider adding an internal M2 SSD.

Here are the steps you've need to install an internal SSD in your PS5.

First you need to find an SSD. You can buy the small drives online but make sure you search for the "M2 SSD" version.

Pocket-Lint recommends the SN850 from WD_Black or the Seagate FireCuda 530.

You'll also need to sign up to Sony's beta testing program as the SSD expansion trick isn't avaliable for all users yet.

Once you've done that or updated to the latest software then you can proceed:

        1. Turn off your PS5 and make sure it's unplugged.
Place your PS5 somewhere soft, like on a carpet floor, and face the disc drive side upwards.
        2. Then gently lever off the white casing. Be careful not to pull too hard or you could snap your PS5 cover.
        3. Once off, you should see the long rectangle SSD card slot covered by a metal plate.
        4. Unscrew the small rectangle using a screwdriver.
        5. Click your SSD into place and secure the metal plate once more.
        6. Once secure, put everything back together and plug your PS5 back in before turning it on.

If all has gone to plan, your TV should display a formatting screen to set your drive up. This just takes a few clicks and then you're all set to enjoy the extra storage.

Sony has a information page here on the SSD trick full of extra details if you get confused.

Doing a PS5 Firmware update if yours keeps on turning off

It could that your PS5 isn't running the latest firmware, which fixes bugs and rolls out various other improvements.

Usually you'll be notified that your console needs an update, but it's worth checking manually, just in case.

You'll need to be connected to the internet first of all, so that you can download any updates.

Head to the 'Settings' menu, then System>System Software>System Software Update and Settings.

Select 'Update System Software', then 'Update Using Internet', and 'Update'.

        CeX overcharging for PS5

While CeX usually comes through, we’d recommend not buying a PS5 from the retailer at this time.

        Why?

Because you’ll be paying so much more for the standalone disc edition console – with the retailer currently selling it for £650.

The console usually costs around £449, so you’re better off waiting for another retailer to stock it back up, rather than buying it for £200 extra.

        PS5 launches Beta updates tomorrow

The next PlayStation system update will give PS5 and PS4 owners more control over group chats, Sony has announced today.

Users will be given the option to create private chats, as well as several other accessibility and quality of life feature in a new beta that launches tomorrow.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the changes mean that group chats on both PS4 and PS5 will have the option to be an open or a closed party.

An open party allows the host’s friends to see and join the party without being invited, and also allows the friends of party members to join, too. A closed party means only invited players may join.

Voice commands, which the PlayStation 4 has had since its launch, will come to the PS5 with the system update, too.

The new beta will broing a host of accessibility features too, such as mono audio for headphones, as well as Screen Reader text support in six more languages.

However there are also loads more changes and features are coming, many of them much smaller, when the beta starts on February 9.
