One of the biggest releases of August just got an awesome upgrade – fans are wowed with gaming improvements | The Sun

AFTER a long time trapped in gaming’s past, one of the biggest games of all time has come to more platforms.

Before yesterday only Xbox players could try it out via backwards compatibility, but now Nintendo and PlayStation fans can join in the fun.

Yesterday (August 17), Red Dead Redemption launched for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.

This is a simple port rather than a remaster or remake, but there are some notable upgrades for new fans.

On the Xbox Series X, despite the fact that it is running the Xbox 360 version, the resolution is still able to reach 2160p.

While the Xbox Series S caps this at 1440p, it is still a significant improvement over the original version.

The new PS4 and PS5 version offers similar upgrades from the PS3 version, also capable of outputting at 2160p.

However, the major difference between the Xbox and PlayStation versions is the number of graphical options available.

With upgrades like anti-aliasing, it’s possible to get a very crisp image when playing Red Dead Redemption on PS5.

As expected, the resolution on Nintendo Switch is lower, but it does meet the system’s max output of 720p in handheld and 1080p in docked mode.

Despite this Red Dead Redemption runs surprisingly well on the Switch given the hardware limitations.

In testing we did encounter some issues with crashing, where we were stuck in the loading screen.

This usually happened after long play sessions, and with the auto-save function not much progress was lost.

The main issue with the Switch is that in handheld mode, the enemies can be difficult to spot, and it’s quite difficult to know where to aim.

Overall, the PlayStation version seems to be the best option to play Red Dead Redemption, but it also costs £15 ($20) more.

It’ll be up to each individual to decide if the improved graphics are worth it to them.
