Joe Biden Wears Walking Boot After Fracturing His Foot While Playing with His Dog

President-elect Joe Biden was pictured wearing a medical boot on Tuesday as he told reporters his right foot felt "good," four days after his office said he slipped and injured himself while playing with his German shepherd Major.

The former vice president, who recently turned 78, fractured his foot on Saturday, according to his transition team, which announced Sunday that he was being examined by an orthopedist.

Biden's physician Dr. Kevin O'Connor said later Sunday that "initial x-rays did not show any obvious fracture," but later examinations revealed hairline fractures in Biden's right foot.

O'Connor said that he anticipated Biden would likely "require a walking boot for several weeks."

Biden wore the black boot, along with a face mask and a blue suit, as he arrived Tuesday afternoon for transition prep at The Queen theater in Wilmington, Delaware. The Biden-Harris team has been using the theater's concert hall — which is a short drive from the Biden home — as a de facto headquarters.

Biden flashed a thumbs-up and waved to reporters as he entered the building, lifting his right leg briefly off the ground.

Elected president last month over incumbent Donald Trump, Biden is in the midst of a transition between the two administrations — one initially stymied by President Trump's push to overturn the election results with allegations of fraud, for which he has not provided proof.

Those attempts have been unsuccessful and, last week, the administrator of the federal General Services Administration granted her approval to proceed fully with the transition.

Biden reportedly received his first presidential intelligence briefing on Monday.

After the initial news of Biden's injury, Trump tweeted: "Get well soon!"

Major, whom Biden was playing with when he fractured his foot last weekend, will be the first rescue dog to live in the White House.

The Bidens adopted him from the Delaware Humane Association in 2018, 10 years after welcoming their first German shepherd, Champ.

Champ and Major will reportedly be joined by a third pet — a cat — according to CBS Sunday Morning.
