Glass shower doors or screens need cleaning regularly for hygiene purposes. However, aesthetically a build-up of limescale can also be an eyesore. The problem many people find, though, is that it can be particularly difficult to scrub away water spots and streaks.
Luckily, on a Reddit forum dedicated to cleaning advice, people from around the world have shared their top tips for keeping your shower door sparkling.
Although there are all manner of tips and tricks for cutting through shower door build-up, it seems that “only” one thing can keep the shower door clean in the long run.
According to Reddit user ExpensiveTip, your best bet is to invest in a “squeegee”.
They wrote: “I’ve tried everything, the squeegee is the only thing that worked.”
A second user named Hubso added: “Yeah, a squeegee is the only way to keep it regularly smear-free, although I still have to resort to a limescale removal spray once a week to minimise the buildup.”
The good news is, squeegees can be purchased for a relatively low cost.
Depending on where you buy it from, squeegees are available anywhere from £1.99 to £19.
There are also electric versions available, which utilise a vacuum to suck away excess water from your shower door.

How does a squeegee work?
Squeegees are handheld tools that are used to remove cleaning fluid or water from a glass surface.
They can also be used to apply and remove cleaning products, promising a streak-free shine.
According to Better Living Products: |They are much better at scraping away all the grime than a cloth or sponge ever could be, and they don’t end up filthy at the end of it.
“Squeegees are effective, sanitary, and very easy to clean.”
Why do shower doors get so marked?
The culprit behind those pesky streaks on your shower door is actually the water you are showering in.
Watermarks are caused when hard water dries and leaves deposits on bathroom surfaces, such as your glass shower door.
Hard water is water high in minerals, such as lime, silica and calcium.
The hardness of your water can depend on where you live.
Using a squeegee is a great preventative measure, stopping hard water stains from forming.

How else can I tackle a stained shower door?
There are a number of cleaning products that boast being able to cut through hard water stains on glass.
However, many anecdotal tales recommend using simple household ingredients such as vinegar or lemon juice.
This is because the acidic composition of vinegar and lemon juice can break through the scummy film that accumulates on glass surfaces.
