Cleaning star Mrs Hinch, whose real name is Sophie Hinchcliffe, rose to fame on social media and now has more than four million followers on her Instagram page. The cleaning sensation has inspired countless people with her ingenious hacks.

Now, cleaning fans have formed their owner social media groups to share a range of effective methods to help spruce-up any home. 

One group member sought advice on how to prevent crockery from being left with an unpleasant odour after removing the items from a dishwasher.

Responding to the post, one person said: “I put half a lemon in mine, smells lovely when you open the door, lasts two or three washes.”

A second person posted: “I take the filter out of the drain plug bit and give it a good clean. Then I throw in a cup of white vinegar and do a wash cycle while it’s empty. Comes up smelling lovely, fresh and clean every time.” 

A third person said: “I hang a lemon freshener in mine. Game changer! Get them from Home Bargains.”

A fourth person explained: “Mine was like that all the time. I use the Fabulosa dishwasher cleaner once a week and use Aldi tablets. Since changing I’ve had no issue with them.”

One group member suggested using HG for Smelly Dishwashers.

Describing the effectiveness of the cleaning product, the online user said: “This stuff is good. I also try to do at least one intensive cycle a week and clean the rubber seal at the bottom of the door – it’s disgusting what accumulates underneath.”

Another person offered: “I use Fairy platinum pods and have a DW freshener hanging inside, clean it every month and don’t have a problem. Machine is 10 years old.”

One group member said: “I use Aldi tablets, but keep the salt and rinse aid topped up. I find the Aldi one’s great, but definitely got to keep rinse aid plus salt topped up.”

While another online user advised scrubbing the filter in the dishwasher.

One person suggested using Astonish to refreshen the electrical appliance.

Another person posted: “You can buy a Finish dishwasher cleaner from most supermarkets. You literally put it in the empty dishwasher and let it run. (Directions on back of pack). 

“Also check your salt, might need topping up. I use Fairy dishwasher tablets.”

Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets can be purchased from Tesco for £5.

One person advised: “Clean the spinning water jets out, you’ll be surprised how much they get in them and all filters, also the out let for drain water.”

Another group member said: “I’ve changed to Fairy dishwasher tablets they’re so much better. It’s definitely you get what you pay for.”

One person highlighted: “Don’t put anything that’s had egg on it in the dishwasher, wash it separately with hot soapy water and dry straight away and you won’t get that wet dog smell.”

Another online user posted: “I bought a freshener for mine – just hang it inside best £1.50 buy ever.” 

Before placing crockery in a dishwasher, one group member suggested removing any remaining food from plates and bowls. The online user then advised wiping the items with kitchen roll, before running them under hot water.
