Before moving to Graven Hill, Ujjwal Malik and his wife, Priyanka, lived in a flat in Slough. When their son arrived, the family decided that they needed more space, which led them to look for a bigger home. Graven Hill, which was highly recommended by Ujjwal’s brother, was the chosen location for the family.

Following a bit of research into the different new build homes available, the family settled on The Dorn, a four bedroom detached home.

Speaking about the journey, Ujjwal said: “We loved our flat in Slough, but with my son starting to find his legs, it became clear that we needed more space.

“My brother had been telling me about Graven Hill for a while, and I was intrigued by the self-build projects he and his friends had undertaken.

“However, I knew that with a toddler in tow, a self-build would take up too much time. Graven Hill’s custom build homes offered the perfect solution for our needs as a young family, providing us with a level of control over customisation, without the need to get involved in the construction of the property.”

Over the last two years, many families have decided to leave London and its suburbs in search for a more rural location.

With millions working from home, commuter towns have become more desired.

Ujjwal added: “Bicester itself is the ideal location for me and my work. I’m an independent mortgage advisor, so I spent a lot of time travelling to and from clients.

“The brilliant transportation connections that surround the town make this a breeze, whether I need to travel by car or catch a train to London.”

The homeowner added that Bicester had lots of woodland areas and new parks to enjoy as well as great primary schools.

Ujjwal continued: “Our home is a 1,420sq ft detached property with four large bedrooms. Space was our main priority when moving, and our new home has plenty.

“The separate lounge and kitchen diner are exactly what we needed, providing a safe place for our son to play while we sort dinner, and somewhere where Priyanka and me to relax once he’s gone to bed.

“The garden is what sold the house to us. In contrast to our old flat, which had little outside space for our son to play in, we now struggle to get him to come inside.

“The garden has become his domain to explore, and I love being able to spend time with him out there. Having a garden and a large kitchen diner also means we can invite my brother and his friends over without feeling cramped. Family really is at the heart of Graven Hill for us.”

According to Rightmove, the average price for a property in Slough is £396,342.

Compared to Bicester where the average house price is £324,827, the family were able to get more for their money by moving out of Berkshire.

When asked about any regrets leaving Slough, Ujjwal told that he has “no regrets”.

He explained: “As much as we loved our flat there, it just wasn’t suitable for life with a young child.

“It’s been amazing to move to a place with so much green space for my son to explore. Plus, living in the same community as my brother means we’ve been able to have more family time, which we feel is really important.”

Although Bicester is more rural than Slough, Ujjwal said the family still have access to all the shops and facilities they are used to.

He added: “We don’t feel like we’re missing out on anything.

“We’ve definitely got the best of both worlds here.”
