U.S.-based contract mining provider Core Scientific has bought 17,595 next-generation Antminer S19 bitcoin miners from Chinese mining equipment maker Bitmain Technologies Inc. on behalf of its growing list of hosting clients as well as its own operating needs. This is claimed to be the largest number of S19 miners purchased by a single blockchain hosting company.
The world’s largest Bitcoin mining hardware maker’s latest flagship model of digital mining machines will be fully deployed across Core Scientific’s 655,000 square feet of data centers located in the U.S. over the next four months.
Core Scientific said these energy efficient miners will successfully serve its growing list of institutional clients with the newest and most efficient equipment and host them in the best facilities in North America.
The installation of these mining systems will position Core Scientific as the largest digital mining operator in North America. The Antminer S19 will help enhance the stability and security of the cryptocurrency network and boost Core Scientific’s bid to grow their business in the digital mining industry.
The Antminer 19 series uses the latest generation of SHA256 Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) miners from Bitmain to allow for more energy efficient mining operations than prior Bitmain models and other ASIC miners that are currently available.
These miners will enable Core Scientific’s digital mining hosting business to serve investors with its fully built-out ASIC, GPU and FPGA ready infrastructures with more than 450MW of power under contract.
Core Scientific said it has received and begun testing the first of Bitmain’s newest ASIC miners, and has seen material success in increasing existing hashrate to achieve a 110 Tera Hashes per second ± 3 percent.
Previously, Core Scientific has teamed up with Bitmain in May to establish the first U.S.-based Ant Training Academy (ATA) in Dalton, Georgia. The ATA will extend Bitmain’s highly regarded training and certification services, officially certified by Antminer, to participants in North America starting in fall 2020.
In October 2019, Bitmain also teamed up with Canadian technology firm DMG Blockchain Solutions to launch a 50MW mining farm in Rockdale, Texas, which can be expanded to a capacity of more than 300MW, to make it one of the largest bitcoin mining facilities in the world.
The mining farm is part of Bitmain’s strategy to invest more than $500 million to set up a new crypto mining facility and blockchain data center in the U.S. State of Texas. The cryptocurrency mining farm in Texas is the third cryptocurrency mine project invested in by Bitmain in the US, one of the company’s most strategic overseas locations.
